John Philip Faulkner (born 12 April 1954) is an Australian former politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian Senate from 1989 to 2015, representing the state of New South Wales. Following a period serving on various Senate Committees and as Deputy Whip, he was a Minister in the Keating Labor government 1993–96

Providence," one of the album's most interesting tracks, is a quiet interlude for phone machine, piano and one abused amplifier. It was a fan-cooled amplifier," Moore says, "and I had put something on the fan, so the tubes were suffocating and created this panicky rumble coming out of the speakers. So we recorded that and made it into a song. He saw movies like John Huston's Wise Blood and Terence Malick's Badlands, which sparked his interest in the 1958 murder spree of Charlie Starkweather and Caril Fugate. Back home in New Jersey, he wrote more than a dozen shattering, plain-spoken songs about murder, despair and isolation. The kind of music on Gumboots is mbaqanga, or "township jive," the street music of Soweto, South Africa, but for Simon the album called to mind music that was closer to home.

Letters: Maybe Dan Fagan should read Hemingway and Thoreau.

A different kind of judge. A court room like no other. Judge Frank Caprio is the Chief Municipal Judge in Providence, Rhode Island and former Chairman of the Rhode Island Board of Governors. He was appointed in 1985, and has been re-appointed six times by the mayor of Providence and the Providence City Council. All of the cases and people are real. Count the lights on empty souls Quietly behind the doors Of bleeding us just for fun Men of power telling lies Shifty hands and thirsty eyes And they can smell your fear like blood. Oh my weary soul We've met your kind before Set fire to us all And oh sweet providence Come save us from ourselves From Hell and consequence.
