Paradise in its musical form. Paradiso" is the third and final part of Tangerine Dream's trilogy inspired by Dante's "LA Divina Commedia". Do not come to this album expecting the usual Tangerine Dream, let alone thumping beats or screaming guitar solos. That is the essence of a great album, and "Paradiso" is just that. A minor blip in the track listing on the cover shows "Jupiter lightning" as the final track on disc one. In fact it opens disc 2).

I love music that explores new musical territory but this one really tests the listeners tolerance levels. Its a companion to the earlier TD work entitled Inferno: and it is very spotty. The few tracks that have a singer doing opera style singing are actually quite interesting but they exist in sharp contrast to other tracks with someone else singing in English in a not opera style with a remarkably unmusical musical accompaniment in the background. The album is like a montage of two different peoples work-one who knows what they are doing and one who quite simply doesn't. I'm surprised it was released in its current form-stands as a testimony to some kind of major creative differences within the band to me. Collectors only material not for the faint of heart.

Tangerine Dream also did 'modern classical music." This 2CD affair is an example of that from TD. The first disc has a few truly interesting tracks that incorporate opera & some very effective sequencer work. The tracks where the singing is in a language other than English work best but there are not enough of them. I found the second CD to be largely gratuitous and perilously close to musical nonsense. Respecting TD's huge body of work, this is one effort I think we could have done without-at least in a 2CD version.
