Phillips's first concert with the Tallis Scholars took place in the St Mary Magdalen's Church, Oxford on November 3, 1973. The group was made up of choral scholars (hence the use of the word 'Scholars' in the title) and layclerks from the leading Oxbridge choral foundations. He released his debut album Jellylegs in 1996 on the Epic Records label. The album included the song "To You I Bestow", which was featured on the best-selling soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's film adaptation Romeo + Juliet. In 2000, Mundy was dropped by Epic while working on his second album, The Moon is a Bullethole, which was about to be recorded. Tenebrae Responsories for Holy Saturday released: 1987. Allegri: Miserere, Palestrina: Missa Papae Marcelli, Mundy: Vox Patris Caelestis released: 1985. Stabat Mater released: Requiem.

Only 18 left in stock (more on the way). Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli is one of that great composer's finest works. Its mastery of polyphony while clarifying the text is said to have convinced the Church to withhold its impending ban on polyphonic church music.

Allegri’s Miserere and Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli are widely recognized as being of the finest music to come from the Golden Age: they must receive more performances throughout the world than any other pieces of unaccompanied sacred music. Vox Patris caelestis was written during Queen Mary’s reign (1553–1558) and so is exactly contemporary with the Missa Papae Marcelli. It can be so precisely dated because it was written in a style which was unacceptable to the Protestant Tudor monarchs – Edward VI and Elizabeth I – and Mundy was too young to have written it in Henry VIII’s reign.

Allegri's Miserere is most famous as the piece, which, by papal decree, could be performed only in the Sistine Chapel, but which the 14-year-old Mozart transcribed from memory after hearing it, according to his father.

Missa Papae Marcelli, or Pope Marcellus Mass, is a mass sine nomine by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. It is his best-known mass, and is frequently taught in university courses on music. It was sung at the Papal Coronation Masses (the last being the coronation of Paul VI in 1963). The Missa Papae Marcelli consists, like most Renaissance masses, of a Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus/Benedictus, and Agnus Dei, though the third part of the Agnus Dei is a separate movement (designated "Agnus II").
