Wish is the second studio album by American jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman released in 1993 via Warner Bros. Joshua Redman said that "one of the reasons I wanted to work with these guys - aside from the obvious fact that they're masters - is because they're master storytellers. He said he was pleased with it because "it has a definite collective identity, a real organic unity.
Joshua Redman's sophomore effort found him leading a piano-less quartet that also included guitar great Pat Metheny and half of Ornette Coleman's trailblazing quartet: acoustic bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Billy Higgins. With such company, Redman could have delivered a strong avant-garde or free jazz album; Haden and Higgins had played an important role in jazz's avant-garde because of their association with Coleman, and Metheny had himself joined forces with Coleman on their thrilling Song X session of 1985

As Joshua Redman became one of the proud forward-thinking jazz masters ever to a bold and encouraging new original direction with his two highly publicized debut albums in 1993, the young tenor saxophone titan deeply impressed the music world with his second blockbuster CD that same year. I became a Joshua Redman fanatic after hearing this album back in 1993 during my freshman year of college. Mind you, I had never previously heard his self-titled debut, nor any work from his superb, legendary sidemen of Metheny, Haden, and Higgins, so I entered this listening experience with no expectations. Actually, I was kind of a jazz novice at the time and I was just snatching up anything of note.
