The Mind’s Eye: A Computer Animation Odyssey Dir. Jan Nickman, 1990 40 min. Beyond the Mind’s Eye Dir. Michael Boydstun, 1992 50 min. One of the earliest examples of a film fully composed of computer-generated imagery (CGI), The Mind’s Eye: A Computer Animation Odyssey assembled the work of three hundred creative artists working across the field of animation. It will screen with Beyond the Mind’s Eye, the second film in a series of four, which continues its predecessor’s goal of promoting the possibilities of computer animation in cinematic storytelling. Featuring a score by Grammy Award–winning Czech composer Jan Hammer, Beyond the Mind’s Eye follows planet-colonizing seeds that arrive via an asteroid.
This is the version of "The Mind's Eye" that was sold in Radio Shack stores in the early 1990s. It was never released on DVD. This version is different from the official Miramar release in that it's slightly older, has different animation on a lot of the tracks, and includes three different videos at the end. 1. Creation 2. Civilization Rising 3. Heart of the Machine 4. Technodance 5. Post Modern 6. Love Found 7. Leaving the Bonds of Earth 8. Q Factor 9. Tingri 10. The Way I Feel
Features the efforts of Jan Hammer and included the first vocal tracks in such segments as Too Far and Seeds of Life, a sequence themed around planet-colonizing seeds featuring the noted Panspermia by computer graphics artist Karl Sims. The DVD version included both the vocal version of Seeds of Life (sung by Chris Thompson) that blended the animation segment and footage of Hammer and his "band" performing (composed of four Jan Hammers), with an instrumental version of the same track.

Title: Odyssey Into the Mind's Eye (Video 1996). After successfully surveying some of the best computer based animation in three wonderful volumes, they seem to slack off and go with imagery that has nothing new, and almost nothing worthwhile to offer. Some of it is neat to look at. None of it breaks the ground of offering high end imagery to the masses. After being touched by the work of Jan Hammer, and being blown away by Thomas Dolby, they seemed to have the music take a back seat to an already mediocre offering.
