Elvis Presley - The Hillbilly Cat - Elvis Presley 1953-1955 - Every concert, studio recording and important event in Elvis Presley's Life from Sun Records, Memphis, Tennessee, 1953 to December 1955. Elvis Presley - Louisiana Hayride. Elvis, Scotty & Bill. Elvis Presley and Sun Records. The story of Elvis Presley's discovery begins with a shy, 18-year-old Elvis entering a recording studio in 1953 to cut two songs on an acetate disk at a cost of four dollars. The Memphis Recording Service was owned and operated by Sam Phillips, who had been recording rhythm-and-blues artists since.
Complete your Elvis Presley collection. These 11 minutes fills up two sides of a Lp. A technical marvel on how they accomplished this. Probably by making the groove as wide as possible. Mostly Frank Page and Horace Logan talking. I wasted my money on this one. Contains very little music and as soon as you start the record and sit down, it's time to get up and turn it over, for another 5 minutes or so. Huge waste of vinyl here.

Elvis Presley started his career making a blend of hillbilly and rhythm n'blues that now we call rockabilly (an early style of rock and roll). Back in 1954 there was no specific market for it, since it was something new, so he played the country & western circuit despite his music been r'n'r (rockabilly) instead of hillbilly. Other publicity name that he used around the time was 'King of western bop'. Recommended reading: Last train to Memphis; the rise of Elvis Presley (Peter Guralnick). Go Cat Go! While Elvis certainly made rockabilly more popular, it was Carl Perkins who put rockabilly on the international map with Blue Suede Shoes. This classic song melds pop, blues, country and early rock 'n' roll to form a perfect rockabilly song. You’ll find a lot of Perkins’ best songs on this list. Other hugely successful rockabilly artists represented on this list of famous rockabilly songs include Eddie Cochran, Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio, Charlie Feathers, Wanda Jackson, and Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps. You’ll also note the addition of some modern-era rockabilly.
