Zuma is the seventh studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, released on Reprise Records in November 1975. Upon release, it peaked at on the Billboard 200. In 1997, the album received a RIAA gold certification. The death of guitarist and bandmate Danny Whitten from a drug overdose in 1972 affected Young greatly, and left the Crazy Horse band without its leader and songwriter.

Neil Young boasted of steering his career into the ditch in the early 1970s, choosing to make sad, lonely, difficult records in the wake of Harvest ’s wide success. The Ditch Trilogy (as Young enthusiasts dubbed it) of Time Fades Away, Tonight’s the Night , and On the Beach marks his creative peak-yet for decades, this era was neglected and incomplete. On the Beach only made it to CD in 2003, and Time Fades Away was never reissued digitally. In Waging Heavy Peace, Young’s 2012 memoir, the 1973 live album is mentioned exactly twice, which is approximately 1,000 times fewer than his electric Lincoln and his Pono music service. Even when major missing pieces of his ’70s catalog were patched in 2003, Time Fades Away was left to rot in the archives.

10, 1975, Zuma may be Neil Young's most underrated album of the ‘70s. While it lacks the commercial power of Harvest, After the Gold Rush and Rust Never Sleeps' iconic status or the cult appeal of Tonight’s the Night, it’s almost the equal of all of them. After completing the Ditch Trilogy of Time Fades Away, On the Beach and Tonight’s the Night in 1973, Young joined up with Crosby, Stills & Nash for a new record that was to be called Human Highway. Perhaps it’s the proximity to his time with his other band that helped ignite Zuma. For much of the record, Crazy Horse sound like they're trying to be Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The sonic onslaught of the electric songs on Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and Rust Never Sleeps is replaced with a greater attention to subtlety.
