Music from The Penguin Cafe was the first album by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. It was recorded between 1974 and 1976, and released in 1976.
The Penguin Cafe Orchestra (PCO) was an avant-pop band led by English guitarist Simon Jeffes. Co-founded with cellist Helen Liebmann, the band toured extensively during the 1980s and 1990s. The orchestra's sound is not easily categorized, but has elements of exuberant folk music and a minimalist aesthetic occasionally reminiscent of composers such as Philip Glass.
About Music from the Penguin Cafe. Music from the Penguin Cafe’ is the debut album from the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, released in 1976. The album was recorded between 1974 and 1976, and was inspired by a vivid dream that Simon Jeffes had. Four of the tracks are performed by the ‘Penguin Cafe Quartet’. The remaining tracks are performed by ‘Zopf’, which contains the quartet members. Music from the Penguin Cafe Q&A. Executive Producer Brian Eno.
Pegging Penguin Cafe Orchestra's sound has always proved problematic; imagine Cluster's toy melodies channeled through the Bonzo Dog Band with a hint of the Art Bears' high-mindedness, and you've at least got a point of reference. The brainchild of t Simon Jeffes, Penguin Cafe's debut was released under the imprimatur of executive producer Brian Eno, who had taken the onus of bringing like-minded minimalists (Harold Budd, Cluster, Jon Hassell) to light. If there's a knock on Music From the Penguin Cafe (and from the vantage point of their second album, there is), it's that Jeffes merely teases listeners with his charm. On the second side (for CD owners, that's the last three songs), the Penguin Cafe Orchestra traverse artier terrain, with little of their original humor (although "Chartered Flight" does reuse themes from the first side in an effort to come across warmly).
The penguin cafe orchestra - broadcasting from home - new CD album. After finding a couple more musicians with Steve Nye adding electric piano and Gavyn Wright providing the violin, Jeffes spent the next few years constructing compositions for his new style of music and which caught the attention of Brian Eno who released the first album MUSIC FROM THE PENGUIN CAFE on his Obscure record label which depicts the scenes of a PENGUIN and.
