Sir Neville Marriner, CH, CBE (15 April 1924 – 2 October 2016) was an English violinist who became "one of the world's greatest conductors". He founded the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and his partnership with them is the most recorded of any orchestra and conductor. Marriner was born in Lincoln, England, the son of Herbert Marriner, a carpenter, and his wife Ethel (née Roberts).

This performance, led by Neville Marriner, is both polished and lively, and very well recorded. At a "twofer" price, coupled with The Art of Fugue, it's the preferred version of the work on modern instruments. There are many apocryphal stories in the classical-music world, but the one in which Frederick the Great challenged Bach to improvise a six-part fugue on a theme of the king's own invention is true, and The Musical Offering was, after a period of further reflection, the result. As with all the works of Bach's later years, the work is both great art and a "teaching piece," which shows everything that he thought could be done with the king's theme
In the focus of attention of this performance from Lugano is Mozart's Concert for flute, harp and orchestra (. 99). It is one of the most popular pieces by the Austrian composer due to the cheerfulness and its jolly mood. The orchestra della Svizzera italiana is conducted by Sir Neville Marriner. Patrick Gallois (flute) and Fabrice Pierre (harp) can be experienced as soloists. The overture from the opera The magic Flute and the Symphony No. 39 in E flat Major make this wonderful mixture. Both of these pieces are most famous works by Mozart, written at the end of his life.
