Album · 2014 · 11 Songs. Where other groups recording in 2014 typically use a number of studio effects to beef up their sound, Amanda X are plenty confident, letting their performances speak for themselves. Songs like Dream House and Tunnels certainly recall Scrawl's energy and beautifully off-kilter harmonies, while adding a touch more tangle in the guitar riffs. Sleater-Kinney also come to mind in the way Amanda X flash their aggressive side.
Let’s begin with some Amanda X fan fiction: In early 2011, the band’s three members were strangers browsing in a Philadelphia-area record store when they suddenly all reached for the same Blake Babies record (let’s say Earwig), and, as they fought over the spoils of a hard day of record shopping, one of them yelled something like, Do you. dillweeds wanna start a band, or what? before the others promptly agreed and started planning rehearsal times. Certainly by the time the album reaches the standout track Parsnip, the band has said most of what they have to say. Parsnip shows off the band at its best: driving rhythms, the airy, crooning vocal delivery, and ss lyrics like I’ve seen into the mouth of the meteor, all rolled up into an effortlessly cool vibe.
Amanda X is a post-punk power pop all-female trio from Philadelphia. Billboard magazine has called them "leaders in their scene" and has described their harmonies as thrash power-pop. They have also received press coverage from Rolling Stone Magazine and The Guardian. The band is composed of Melissa Brain on drums, Kat Bean on bass. In 2014, the band debuted their full-length album, Amnesia, described by Rolling Stone Magazine as an arsenal of high velocity drums and post-punk hooks. The album was recorded at Uniform Recording Studios in Philadelphia on the imprint, Siltbreeze. They later released New Year (2015), Hundreds and Thousands (2015) Their album, Giant, will be released in Fall, 2017. Cat Park also released an album, All Bad with punk musicians Evan Bernard of The Superweaks, and Jarret Nathan of PEARS on Get Better Records.

When Amanda X plays shows, they are often put in a lineup with other bands featuring all women. Every time I’ve seen them live, they were joined by other female-fronted acts. Some fans, upon hearing that they are an all-girl act, will throw around terms like riot grrrl, and though riot grrrl is wonderful and there is nothing wrong with solidarity among female musicians, the band isn’t part of any particularly political movement
Then in 2014, the band debuted their full-length album, Amnesia, described by Rolling Stone Magazine as an arsenal of high velocity drums and post-punk hooks. The album was recorded at Uniform Recording Studios in Philadelphia on the imprint, Stiltbreeze.
