About the album: Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show 12/31/69 documents the debut performance of Jimi Hendrix's short-lived but eternally influential, Band of Gypsys. The group played four historic concerts at the Fillmore East in New York City, two on New Year's Eve 1969, and two on New Year's Day 1970.

This was the second time producer Alan Douglas supervised a Hendrix record for the label, the first being the live mini LP Johnny B. Goode, which was released earlier the same year

Band of Gypsys was the only live recording authorized by Jimi Hendrix before his death. Helping him out were longtime friends Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on the drums because the Experience had broken up in June of 1969, following a show in Denver. This rhythm section was vastly different from the Experience. Buddy Miles was an earthy, funky drummer in direct contrast to the busy, jazzy leanings of Mitch Mitchell.

Featuring Jimi Hendrix (guitar), Billy Cox (bass), and Buddy Miles (drums), Band Of Gypsys presents six of the most heralded live recordings in rock history including the classics, Machine Gun, Who Knows, Message To Love, and We Gotta Live Together. Machine Gun. Changes. We Gotta Live Together.

With the breakup of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Jimi moved to perform with Buddy Miles and Billy Cox on this historic live album recorded just six months before he died. Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys LP sealed vinyl RE reissue.

My understanding is that the original was released in the "Puppet Sleeve" which was subsequently withdrawn. The Record Collector price guide states that this is a repressing in a gatefold sleeve and a second repressing in a non gatefold sleeve.

I believe I have a version that isn't up here but wanted to check. It's STAO-472 with lime green Capitol label. Gatefold. Semi glossy appearance. On the front cover it has a Gold Record Award graphic in the image under Hendrix's guitar. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
