The Gap Band III is the fifth album (contrary to the title) by The Gap Band, released in 1980 on Mercury Records. It was produced by Lonnie Simmons. It was their first album to achieve platinum status.

The Gap Band was an American R&B and funk band that rose to fame during the 1970s and 1980s. The band consisted of three brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson; and it was named after streets (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine) in the historic Greenwood neighborhood in the brothers' hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The group shortened its name to The Gap Band in 1973. After 43 years together, they retired in 2010.

When Gap Band III came out in 1980, the Wilson Brothers were widely regarded as true heavyweights in the funk field. Over the years, The Gap Band III (which was the group's fifth album, not its third) has often been described as the ultimate Gap Band album - and it's hard to disagree with that assertion.
