Fame, who had a string of 1960s hits, is still a popular performer, often working with contemporaries such as Van Morrison and Bill Wyman. In September 1963 the band recorded its debut album, Rhythm And Blues at the Flamingo, live at the Flamingo Club. Name Droppin': Live at Ronnie Scott's, Vol. 1 (1997), Go Jazz Records. Walkin' Wounded: Live at Ronnie Scott's, Vol. 2 (1998), Go Jazz Records. Endangered Species (with The Danish Radio Big Band ) (recorded 1993, released 1999), Music Mecc. Poet in New York (2000), Go Jazz Records. Yeh Yeh" went all the way to number one on the British charts, and Fame started living up to his stage name (although the song barely missed the Top 20 in America). His 1965 LP Fame at Last reached the British Top 20, and after several more minor hits, he had another British number one with "Getaway" in 1966.
Jeff Beck released this live album, recorded at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, on 10 November 2008. Other performers were Jason Rebello on keyboards, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. The version of "A Day in the Life" featured on this album was awarded a Grammy for Best Instrumental Rock performance
I was also fortunate enough to see Georgie Fame live at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz club, where he has previously completed residences and what a special moment that was. Everyone in the room watched in awe as he skillfully reeled off a set of quality hits, originals and covers, and indulged in some mind blowing piano solos. Taking inspiration from the originators of Jazz, like Ray Charles, seeing Georgie Fame live was confirmation of why he has had such an extensive and successful career and I’m so glad that I got to see the star in person.
