Jefferson Airplane Takes Off is the debut studio album by the American rock band Jefferson Airplane, released in August 1966 as RCA Victor LSP-3584 (stereo) and LPM-3584 (mono). The personnel differs from the later "classic" lineup: Signe Toly Anderson was the female vocalist and Skip Spence played drums. Both soon left the group-Spence in May 1966, Anderson in October-and were replaced by Spencer Dryden and Grace Slick, respectively.

Takes Off was released in August of 1966, smack dab in the middle of the psychedelic 60’s, though for all intent, the psychedelic 60’s was made up primarily of 1966 and the summer of 1967, before tailing off at the end of the decade. Signe Toly Anderson, the group's original lead singer, died at the age of 74. She sang on the band's 1966 debut album Jefferson Airplane Takes Off before leaving the group to be replaced by Grace Slick.

The debut Jefferson Airplane album was dominated by singer Marty Balin, who wrote or co-wrote all the original material and sang most of the lead vocals in his heartbreaking tenor with Paul Kantner and Signe Anderson providing harmonies and backup. Anderson's lead vocal on "Chauffeur Blues" indicated she was at least the equal of her successor, Grace Slick, as a belter.

Let Me In (from Jefferson Airplane Loves You) (Balin, Kantner) 3:31. Run Around (uncensored version) (Balin, Kantner) 2:35. Chauffeur Blues (alternate version) (Melrose) 2:49. And I Like It (alternate version) (Balin, Kaukonen) 8:16. Blues from an Airplane (instrumental; hidden track) (Balin, Spence) 2:10. Состав группы: Марти Балин - вокал, ритм-гитара.
