t and ‘non-musician’ Gareth Williams threw his lot in with the Flaming Tunes project, a collaboration with Mary Currie. The resulting cassette, 1985’s Flaming Tunes, is a stunning combination of lo-fi experimentation, graceful songwriting and agreeable New Age mumbo-jumbo. After Williams passed away in 2001, Currie has worked tirelessly to preserve the album’s memory. Flaming Tunes is now set to see release on vinyl for the first time, courtesy of Blackest Ever Black
GARETH WILLIAMS & MARIE CURRIE ‘Breast Stroke’ (Flaming Tunes, 1985). If there’s such a thing as a perfect album, Gareth Williams & Marie Curie’s Flaming Tunes might be it. The late, great Williams was a member of This Heat, and after that combustible trio flew apart for the last time, he hooked up with Curie and recorded this beautiful cassette, which effortlessly takes This Heat’s penchant for studio experimentation and wired intensity and lands it in a more bucolic, agrarian space

Williams later formed Flaming Tunes with Mary Currie and released a cassette of material, which was later released on CD. In 1993 a new album of previously unreleased This Heat recordings was unearthed. Repeat featured three long tracks, including the title track, a 20-minute remix of "24 Track Loop". Out of Cold Storage, a box set of all the band's official recordings, was released in June 2006 on This is!, a new Recommended Records sub-label set up by Hayward and Bullen to re-release This Heat's back catalogue
