The Trashcan Sinatras are a Scottish band that was formed in Irvine, Scotland in 1986. The band's music makes frequent use of pop harmonies and the lyrics make frequent use of wordplay. The band members met through the club/pub music scene in Irvine. The name was derived from a music class for the unemployed, where students improvised on various 'instruments'. After banging on some trash cans, someone mentioned Frank Sinatra and the band name was born.

The Trash Can Sinatras' 1990 debut, Cake, mixes intricately intertwined guitars with lush strings and sophisticated harmonies. Easy on the ears, Cake is as enjoyable an album as one could hope. From Irvine in Scotland here was a great bunch of jangly little tunes with a feeling of Morrissey about them. The Scots voice is apparent to the tones throughout and only coming to the fore on the opening track. First released on the GO DISCS label in 1990 and subsequently deleted from our range we have re-released it as part of the Universal Music Archive Collection. Cake will join a series of albums from our 50 year history that will now be supplied on-demand using the latest digital manufacturing technology.

The Trash Can Sinatras' 1990 debut, Cake, mixes intricately intertwined guitars, in the spirit of a more charming, less gritty Johnny Marr, with lush strings and sophisticated harmonies. Touchingly clever wordplay ("You came into my life/Like a brick through a window/And I cracked a smile") abounds, as on "The Best Man's Fall. Easy on the ears and palate, Cake is as filling and digestible an album as one could hope. Subsequent Trash Can Sinatras releases reach for the same greatness but ultimately fall a little short. This precursor to early 21st century Brit-pop darkens the occasional used record store bin. And it tastes almost as fresh as the day it was made.

A second Trash Can Sinatras single, "Only Tongue Can Tell," preceded the release of the quintet's debut LP, Cake, which met with a positive response on both sides of the Atlantic; in the . The Trash Can Sinatras kept busy with a live album in 2009, Brel, and preparing a box set intended to feature their Fontana albums plus Weightlifting and bonus tracks. Unfortunately, it never saw the light of day, and the band resumed touring in 2010, playing the initial show in a fan's living room in Portland.
