Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk (born February 3, 1947) is an American singer-songwriter known professionally as Melanie and sometimes as Melanie Safka. She remains best known for the 1971/72 global hit "Brand New Key", her cover of "Ruby Tuesday", her composition "What Have They Done to My Song Ma", and her 1970 international breakthrough hit "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)", inspired by her experience of performing at the 1969 Woodstock music festival.

Madrugada is a 1974 album released by Melanie featuring the singles "Lover's Cross" and "Love to Lose Again". In November 1973, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" became a Top 40 hit in the United Kingdom and was subsequently added to the British release of the album. As with Gather Me, the album featured arrangements and conduction by Roger Kellaway. The word madrugada is Portuguese and Spanish for "daybreak". All songs written by Melanie Safka except where noted: "Love to Lose Again".

Melanie Ann Safka-Schekeryk (b. 1947; known professionally as Melanie) is a . Born on the 3rd February 1947 in Astoria, New York, Melanie made her first recording, "Gimme a Little Kiss", when she was five. She first found chart success in Europe. Her 1969 song "Bobo's Party" reached number one in France. Later that year she had a hit in the Netherlands with "Beautiful People" before performing at Woodstock.
