In addition to Asia's Arena album, during the 1996-1997 period Asia released three compilations, four live albums, and one single. That's nine different titles. If you were an Asia fan, these were big times indeed. Unfortunately the sheer volume of releases overwhelmed whatever concept of quality the band (or maybe record execs) had. Archiva 1 is as its name implies, the first of two archival collections of outtakes and unreleased material from the Payne era of Asia. If you rate those albums highly and you want more of the same, Archiva 1 & 2 are worthy additions to your collection. If you don't have those three studio albums, I would certainly not start with these compilations before getting those original albums. Most of the songs here are typical of this era of Asia and as such are moderately interesting.

Anthology is a compilation by Asia highlighting the John Payne era up to 1997. Re-recordings of John Wetton-era material were prompted by a lawsuit filed by Wetton when the original versions were used on the initial release in Japan. New versions were allowed, as well as a cover of the GTR track, "The Hunter". Only Time Will Tell (Wetton, Downes). Arena (Downes, Payne). Anytime (Downes, Payne). Don't Cry (Wetton, Downes). Aqua Part One (Downes, Payne, Howe).

Asia's second volume of Archiva is not near as good as the first one. Vol. 1 had a lot more songs that were good and only a couple that were bad. Vol 2 has 3 good songs OBSESSION, RIGHT TO CRY & MOON UNDER WATER. Rest of the songs are average or below. Production this time seems rushed, and a lot of the song do not have the Asia feel to them. Big complaint is that this time you can see the cover, BUT it's the same cover as Vol 1, juet with Vol 2 on it instead. The album ending instrumental "Armenia" is great. Archiva Vol. 2 is much better than the first Archiva volume. Worth a listen, there are some great songs on here.
Alpha is the second studio album by British rock band Asia, released on 26 July 1983 in the United States and on 12 August 1983 in the United Kingdom by Geffen Records. Recorded at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Quebec, and Manta Sound in Toronto from February to May 1983, the album was produced, like its multi-platinum predecessor, by Mike Stone. Guitarist Steve Howe left the band in 1984. Thus, Alpha was the last album to feature the band's original line-up until Phoenix which was released in 2008. The original line-up re-formed two years earlier in 2006. Archiva 1. Archiva 2. Anthology.
