Orchestra – Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. Soprano Vocals – Corinne Frank Bowen. Recorded January 6, 1935 at a concert in Cyrus Northrup Auditorium, Minneapolis. Sides 1 and 16 were remade the next day. Second ever recording and release of Mahler's Symphony No. 2. 78rpm, Victor 11753-63, in Set M 256, mX 87511-32. Matrix, Runout: 87511-32.

The symphony was issued on eleven 2-sided 78 rpm shellack records in an album that weighed about 5 pounds. Each side held 4:33 minutes of music which was faded in and out at the beginning and end of each side, a practice used briefly by Victor in 1935. This is a memorable performance and a memorable recording. Mahler once said, "There are no bad orchestras, only bad conductors. This recording certainly bears that out.

Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler, known as the Resurrection Symphony, was written between 1888 and 1894, and first performed in 1895. This symphony was one of Mahler's most popular and successful works during his lifetime. It was his first major work that established his lifelong view of the beauty of afterlife and resurrection. In this large work, the composer further developed the creativity of "sound of the distance" and creating a "world of its own", aspects already seen in his First Symphony
