A Place to Bury Strangers are a New York City-based American noise rock band, composed of Oliver Ackermann (guitar/vocals, bass), Dion Lunadon (bass guitar, guitar) and Lia Simone Braswell (drums). The band, commonly known by the initials APTBS, play a heavy, atmospheric wall of sound-influenced blend of psychedelic rock, shoegaze and space rock. A Place to Bury Strangers (album). A Place to Bury Strangers is the debut studio album by American shoegazing band A Place to Bury Strangers, released on September 17, 2007. Most of the album's songs were recorded between 2004 and 2006 and were released as series of ad hoc EPs which were sold at shows by the band.
A Place To Bury Strangers was first formed in 2003 by David Goffan and Tim Gregorio, and was later joined by Oliver Ackermann. The band started to gain attention after their performance at Webster Hall with The Brian Jonestown Massacre in 2006. By 2007 they signed a contract (on a napkin) with Killer Pimp Records, followed shortly by the release of their first album A Place To Bury Strangers. That same year they set out on tour with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s Holy F k tour. The band continued to tour with carious other bands and in 2009 they signed with Mute Records. Composed of Oliver Ackerman, Dion Lunadon and Robi Gonzalez, they went through a number of lineup changes before releasing their first album.

Lia Simone Braswell, an . native, had recently moved to New York, and was playing drums in shows around Brooklyn just to keep her chops up. As it turned out, APTBS bassist Dion Lunadon caught one of those shows and, after seeing her play, was moved to ask her if she’d want to come to a band practice sometime. I told some of my friends about it before I met up with them, Braswell says, of the rehearsal that would soon lead to her joining the band.
