Nothing Safe: Best of the Box is the first greatest hits album by the American rock band Alice in Chains. It was released on June 29, 1999 on Columbia Records. The previously unreleased track "Get Born Again" was released as a single to promote the album and peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and at No. 12 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. Get Born Again" was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2000.
Released a year before his death from an overdose, this collection covers the Layne Stayley era of the band (they reformed in 2005). Major hits "Rooster" and "No Excuses" are included, as well as "Them Bones," which is "the" archetypal grunge tune. With the torrent of imitators echoing their dark depression in the wake of Dirt, Alice In Chains was one of, if not the most influential band of their time.
Greatest Hits provides a quick fix for newer fans, but with The Best of the Box boasting 9 of Greatest Hits' 10 songs, plus an additional 5 selections. Skip Hits and go for The Best. From 1999's Music Bank box set and its one-CD compilation offshoot, Nothing Safe: The Best of the Box to a 1996 Unplugged CD, the Alice in Chains titles continue to arrive even while the band-and especially reclusive frontman Layne Staley-stagnates. Alice in Chains (occasionally informally referred to as The Dog Album, The Dog Record, and Tripod) is the self-titled third studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains. It was released on November 7, 1995, and was the follow-up to the highly successful Dirt. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 46 weeks. Grind", "Heaven Beside You" and "Again" were released as singles.
A greatest hits compilation in theory are great albums. But in truth, they can be the most average album released by a band. They can leave out some of their most notable songs and/or include songs that got hardly any airplay back in the day (eh hem, Nirvana). That aside, the Alice In Chains greatest hits album is just another casualty. The original Alice In Chains lineup formed in 1987 and died in 1996 after MTV Unplugged. Of all the songs they released in that timespan, they only put ten in this album. Nine years of material and only ten songs were present
