Get breaking news alerts from The Washington Post. Why this is so is a mystery, although Lowe suspects that it is connected to the tendency by some Western historians and politicians to look back at the aftermath of the Second World War through rose-tinted spectacles, focusing in particular on the Marshall Plan as evidence of Europe’s speedy rebirth. Lowe - a British writer who has published two novels and the well-regarded Inferno: The Fiery Destruction of Hamburg 1943 - will have none of that, and Savage Continent leaves no doubt that he is right: The immediate postwar period is one of the most important times in our recent history

The Aftermath (Jonathan Coulton album). The Aftermath is a collection of songs released following the 'aftermath' of the Thing a Week project by comedy rock musician Jonathan Coulton. Unforgettable is a 1961 LP record by blues, R&B and jazz singer Dinah Washington, released on the Mercury Records label, and reissued as a compilation album in 1991. The record shows the singer mostly in a pop star role instead of her traditional jazz & blues style.

Goodbye to Gravity were hosting their CD release show at the Colectiv nightclub on Oct. 30 when a fire broke out inside the club and spread quickly through the inferior insulation in the venue. According to reports, there were only two exits, leading a crowd crush as people tried to flee. Immediately after the fire, the band's two guitarists were listed among the initial death count. In the aftermath of the fire, the three owners of the nightclub were arrested. Days later, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta resigned amidst protests and demonstrations in Bucharest. Meanwhile, the mayor of the Bucharest district where the club fire took place resigned as well. Authorities state that 76 people remain hospitalized in Bucharest, with 24 of those still listed in serious or critical condition.
