Do the Collapse Tracklist. 1. Teenage FBI Lyrics.

Guided by Voices grew a fanbase that loved the band’s cheap approach to recording just as much as they loved the songs. So when band leader Robert Pollard wondered what his songs might sound like if he put the time and energy into recording them in a full-fledged studio, many fans became uncomfortable. But, ‘Do the Collapse’ has enough moments of brilliance to make it an essential piece of any GBV fan's music collection and we didn’t even cover all of the genuinely good songs on the album.

99 Record label: TVT Records Genre(s): Rock. 80 Music-Critic Score How the Music Critic Score works. Surgically Focused by: mark feldman. For the entire 13 years of his band's existence, GBV have continued to be the first and foremost in combining the "lo-fi" sound with '60s pop influences and lyrics that make absolutely no real sense.

One school of thought regarding Guided By Voices considers the band in their element with a four-track, turning out impressionist albums of fragmented, mini-pop songs. The other claims that they're a great pop band that has never made a great pop album because of their adherence to the four-track. Maybe frontman Robert Pollard is among the latter camp, since Do the Collapse is their first effort recorded in a full-fledged studio with a real producer, namely Ric Ocasek.

Guided by Voices (GBV) is an American indie rock band formed in 1983 in Dayton, Ohio. It has made frequent personnel changes but always maintained the presence of principal songwriter Robert Pollard, who founded the group with guitarists Mitch Mitchell, Tobin Sprout, Jim Pollard, and drummer Kevin Fennell.

The twenty-eighth studio album under the Guided By Voices name, Warp And Woof, follows hot on the heels of February’s double release Zeppelin Over China. At thirty-two tracks, with some even exceeding the three minute mark, Zeppelin Over China inevitably diluted its overall effect, despite containing some classic cuts. Cohesive Scoops’ is GBV at their most radio-friendly and wouldn’t sound out of place on 1999’s Do The Collapse. Down The Island’ slows the pace with a reflective ballad born out of the sound of rain and tape hiss.
