The enigmatic Blue Boy comes to us via the year 3001. He hails from one of Jupiter's 12 moons. Exactly which moon is unspecified. It wasn't until 1995 that Ascension Records in the UK put out a relatively unknown EP by somebody named Blue Boy that people started to think that maybe he was still with us. Once again, Blue Boy achieved cult status with the song "Sandman". And now, in 1997, again, this mysterious figure shocks the world with his fusion of the '70s funk and the future with "Remember Me" on Guidance Recordings in the US. Still nobody has seen him or knows where he is.

Scattered is a second compilation of demos, outtakes and rarities by alternative country band The Handsome Family. It was released 2010 through Handsome Family Music and is the sequel to 2002's Smothered and Covered. The Lost Soul" - 3:21. version of a traditional. When It Rains" - 2:25. outtake from Twilight. Very overrated record with two stock-standard disco/funk house tracks in "So Lonely" and "Funky Friday", and the half-decent mainstream triphop of "Remember Me".B2 "Clickwork '91" is a great subdued Detroit house shuffler which would warrant the purchase if this were cheaper.

B1 'Funky Friday' contains clever double speed sample use of Marvin Gaye's "A Funky Space Reincarnation". Lex Blackmore (Blue Boy) is a Scott, here on Guidance records- 'Remember Me' smashed its way into the mainstream quite deservedly, and sits comfortably next to 'So Lonely'. On the flip, 'Funky Friday' and 'Clickwork '91' are so ridiculously good they easily find home in the cream of US deep/disco house releases of the late '80's/early '90's, finding competition in bona fide Chi/NY/Detroit/Philly underground classics. This was released in '96, but the sampling and structure at its heart remains true to the pure, early sensibilities of 'house' music, making this, in essence, both timeless and authentic. Grab one.

Beautifully smooth and funky house also featuring the minor chart hit in the U.K. 'Remember me' with that classic sample. oh boy I'm getting twitchy feet just thinking about it.
