Sam Binga - Wasted Days With his Sam Binga alias, Sam Simpson finally sounds comfortable. As Baobinga, he was a leader of the mid-2000s breaks scene before becoming a bass music chameleon who used his collaborators as springboards. as Behling & Simpson. Simpson's collaboration with Critical affiliate Hyroglifics, "Dark Day," is the album's centerpiece. Slowed to 127 BPM and loaded with mournful synths and coiled drum breaks, its sighing pads hint towards Autonomic and provide some respite from the record's high-octane madness. Om Unit jumps on "Reclaim," a crunchy 160 BPM banger, and Simpson goes solo for "I Tol . As you'd expect, it's pretty much all drums, a nod to the earliest Baobinga days presented in an updated framework.

A note from Sam Binga: This album is my small contribution to the ongoing – and endlessly inspiring – conversation between Jamaican sound system culture, US hip hop, and UK club music. And I’ve equally been able to take influences from all over the world, and gradually understand how to fit them into a coherent framework – my own coherent framework. Release date – 11th September 2015. com/sambingamusic ww. witter. com/sam binga ww. riticalmusic. VANISHINGPOINT! & Feed Your Head – 19th and 20th Sep.

In stock now for same day shipping. Sam 'Binga' Simpson has always been a keen collaborator. In fact, his debut solo album - released under his previous Baobinga alias back in 2011 - was entitled Joint Ventures, and was entirely made up of co-productions. Wasted Days, the belated follow-up, is similarly minded, with the Bristol-based Hull exile being joined by an impressive roster of guest vocalists - Slick Don, TT The Artist, Rider Shafique and Warrior Queen amongst them - with old pals Om Unit and Chimpo also lending a hand

Great album and well worth a listen IMO. Different..... maybe, fresh...... definitely, innovative.... I would say so. But 'flop, rubbish and disappointing' are not words that spring to mind. Critical always set the bar high without a doubt so do we really think they would put a mediocre album out? Doubtful. Maybe it's a grower for some?

stellar album from one of my favourite dudes in the game.. killer DJ as well!

Why the hate for this record? I'm giving it a spin for the first time right now, and I'm loving every second. Amazing sounding pressing.

Listened a second time to this and yes it still sounds rubbish (the artwork is adequate to the content).Until this LP Sam Binga did a fantastic job but this disappoints - check out his older stuff & you will know.
