Green River ABOUT "FORMOSA MEDICINE SHOW" We adore the Memphis Jug Band, Gus Cannon, Clarence Williams, among many of the pre-war blues/skiffle/trad. But instead of re-hashing and re-interpreting their songs, we wanted to try something new with this recording, made in 2013.
Muddy Basin Ramblers, Taipei, Taiwan. album "Formosa Medicine Show," (2013) which was wellreceived in Taiwan's indie music scene and even earned a Grammy nomination for best album package design. Their latest album is "The Dance Age, (2016) an EP which features swing/blues adapations of several classic Taiwanese songs.
The Muddy Basin Ramblers do all this in an unlikely place, Taipei, Taiwan, aka Ihla Formosa. But that's part of the charm of this band. The Ramblers are a group of seven US and UK expats, many of whom have lived on the island since the 1980s. The stories accumulated, some of which made their way into the Ramblers' soul-affirming, rollicking album "Formosa Medicine Show" (2013). With the album's songs, painstaking care was taken to respect the spirit of their musical heroes, but also to push the music in new, thoughtful directions. For example the band bridged American style jazz with Taiwanese folk styles such as Nakashi (a hybrid of Japanese Enka, imported during colonial times).

The Muddy Basin Ramblers were formed in 2003 by a group of American and British expats who love Taiwan and have made it their permanent home. Now a nine-piece collective of musicians hailing from Taiwan, US, Canada and the UK, the Ramblers continue to bring joy to audiences both young and old with their collection of sounds from brass horns, woodwinds, guitars, banjos, ukuleles and homemade instruments.
The Muddy Basin Ramblers are pleased to present "The Dance Age," their new five-song CD featuring two classic Taiwanese songs. With this EP, we celebrate a time when records spun at 78 revolutions per minute (RPM) and couples danced the foxtrot, Lindy Hop and the Charleston.
