Pyrrhon is a technical death metal quartet based in Brooklyn, New York. Formed in 2008, the group comprises vocalist Doug Moore, guitarist Dylan DiLella, bassist Erik Malave, and drummer Steve Schwegler  . In 2009, Sheen departed from the group to study abroad and was replaced by Erik Malave. The band's first official release was an EP titled Fever Kingdoms, issued on Path Less Traveled in 2010. Pyrrhon's full-length debut, An Excellent Servant But a Terrible Master, was released in 2011 and was met with some acclaim in underground circles. The success of the album caught the attention of major label Relapse Records, who signed the band in 2013.

FEVER KINGDOMS seems to just plod along predictably with each of the five tracks sounding alike with the same riffs recycled. What it boils down to with PYRRHON's debut is that something is woefully missing to give this sonic noise parade some sort of spirit. It plods along checking off all the boxes of extreme tech metal but doesn't deliver in anything that is very satisfying.

More generic in nature than the deranged offerings that were to follow but still showing snatches of the dissonant brilliance that was to follow. I first caught wind of Pyrrhon wth the release of 'An Excellent servant but a Terrible Master' in 2011. Their utterly unhinged blend of death metal heaviness and mathcore like chaotic intensity immediately struck a chord with me as it evoked the spastic approach of outfits like Ulcerate and Converge which I have loved for years. While the influence is certainly detectable, Pyrrhon sounds as different from these bands as they do from each other, with a frenzied and disturbing sound all of their own. Having listened to and loved everything else in their catalogue, I eventually thought.
