The original Ska-talites band only stayed together for a couple of years, but they laid a mighty foundation. First released in 1964 on coloured vinyl, the original Ska Authentic album (on ND Records, Studio One’s parent label) is one of the rarest albums in the entire Studio One catalog. The LP was followed by Ska Authentic Volume 2, a 1965 compilation with similar artwork to the 1964 LP, also released on ND Records. These were followed in 1967 by the The Ska-talites’ Ska Authentic on Studio One using the same graphics

Four of the greatest ska albums ever issued. Includes numerous Jamaican hits of the early 1960s. By the time the driving rhythms of ska exploded onto the international music scene in 1964, former policeman and legendary producer, Arthur ‘Duke’ Reid was long established as one of Jamaica’s successful and powerful operators, rivalled only by Clement ‘Coxson’ Dodd of Studio One fame. At the height of this ska boom, the Duke set to reinforce his reputation as a leading player on the local music scene with the release of The Birth Of Ska and Latin Goes Ska, each featuring a dozen major Jamaican hits of the early 1960s.
10 Essential Ska Tracks. By: Jeff Terich and Adam Blyweiss. Anyone who grew up in the ’90s had a ska phase. Jack Black’s Barry from the 2000 film High Fidelity’s chooses the song as one of his top five to be played at his funeral, and it’s hard to imagine a more badass way for someone to skank their way off this mortal coil. The 2 Tone label and its various bands gave ska a distinctively English voice, one that spoke to the rising political tensions of the era and the dangerous right-wing factions that had been cropping up at the time-and whose ilk sadly still linger.
Comprising 20 rare and previously unreleased ska tracks, direct from the vaults of Duke Reid’s legendary Treasure Isle catalogue, this sumptuous box set includes ten 7 singles presented vintage style sleeves. Read full description. See details and exclusions. See all 16 brand new listings.
Rock music CD release from Various with the album Top Guns from the Top Deck. Released on the label Music Club Records. Taken from the original masters of Top Deck supremo, David Yap, and representing about a third of his total, short-lived output, these 26 journeys feature such legends as Ferdie Nelson, Roland Alphonso, Tommy McCook and, of course, that miraculous session band, the Skatalites. Obeying the hypnotic hum of the totem Dub, this compilation revels in ska's versatility, its ability to clash soul, jazz, blues, spaghetti soundtracks, Latino et al into epic wet dreams.
