McFadden and Whitehead were an American R&B duo, best known for their signature tune "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now". They wrote and produced some of the most popular R&B hits of the 1970s, and were primarily associated with Gamble and Huff's Philadelphia International soul music record label. When they were teenagers, Gene McFadden and John Whitehead formed a group called The Epsilons. The personnel included Allen Beatty, James Knight, and future Blue Notes member Lloyd Parks.
Their single "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" was number one R&B in 1979 and peaked at number 13 pop. The two were members of the Epsilons as teens, a band that toured with and were managed by Otis Redding until his death in 1967. They later signed with Stax and had a moderate hit in 1970 with "The Echo. When Lloyd Parkes left, McFadden & Whitehead changed their name to Talk of the Town and began working with Gamble & Huff. In 2004, Whitehead was shot and killed, believed to be a victim of mistaken identity. Two years later, McFadden's life was taken by cancer.
In 1977, McFadden and Whitehead decided to again try to make a name for themselves as performers. Two years later they had a smash hit with Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now. The duo wrote the song with Jerry Cohen, and it was the first single from their self-titled debut album. The record scored across the board, topping the R&B chart, crossing over to on the Billboard Hot 100, and reaching on the disco charts. The two-million seller earned the duo a platinum record.
