The Modern Folk Quartet (or "MFQ") was an American folk music revival group that formed in the early 1960s. Originally emphasizing acoustic instruments and group harmonies, they performed extensively and recorded two albums. In 1965, as the Modern Folk Quintet, they ventured into electric folk rock and recorded with producers Phil Spector and Jack Nitzsche.
The Grammy Award for Best Immersive Audio Album (until 2018: Best Surround Sound Album) was first awarded in 2005, as the first category in a new "Surround Sound" field. This field currently holds the Best Immersive Audio Album award as its sole category. It is one of a few categories which are open to both classical and non-classical recordings, new or re-issued. To qualify for this category, the recording must be in surround quality (with a minimum of four channels)

SUNDAY SONGS: Today I recommend checking out "Burn My Letters", the latest album by New York rock 'n' roll veteran and overlooked possibility of the 90's grunge boom (as the lead singer/guitarist of St. Johnny) William Carlos Whitten, out now on cassette via I Heart Noise. Burn My Letters" is a thoughtful collection of rhythmic, moody, singer/songwriter rock. The band includes a number of new york indie rock heavy-weights that lend a modern edge and complex feel to the production that surrounds these philosophical, world-weary melodies
Surround Me is an album of gutsy, lo-fi garage rock, recorded in warehouse spaces with a drummer and everything turned up to eleven, whereas Leather Jacket is much more reserved, recorded at home with the aid of an ancient drum machine. The album has this great swaggering, half-soaked coolness about it, all mumbling vocals and lazy guitars – basically exactly how a record called Leather Jacket should sound. The final release is American Sewer, which was reportedly recorded on a cellphone under a bridge in Portland in the space of just two hours.

Their first album 40 Days is still one of their best, with a startling variety of songs, from adaptations of traditional songs such as The Parting Glass to unexpected covers of Neil Young’s Old Man or John Hiatt’s Take it Down. Standout track: Arlington is one of the prettiest songs The Wailin’ Jennys have ever released, a longer track that starts out slowly and solemnly before blossoming into the band’s trademark, three-part harmonies. Most people simply can’t sing like these women, who are hiding behind not an ounce of studio magic. Fuse all of those elements into a whole and you end up with an album of modern folk that touches on gospel spirituals, traditional sets of Irish reels and jigs and even a Tracy Chapman cover. There’s not a bad song on the entire album.
A leather jacket is an investment. No matter what, though, there are options, and hopefully whichever one you choose will last for years. The right leather jacket for you will be dependable, reliable, and tailored perfectly. Ideally, you can throw it over jeans and a t-shirt and look effortlessly cool and relaxed. But if you're going to drop some cash and decide on a jacket you'll wear often, where do you even begin to look?
Hi! I'm Jacob, and a few years ago I set up Modern Folk Embroidery. As I went looking for folk-inspired embroidery patterns, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted to stitch, so I decided to design some patterns myself. After opening a shop on Etsy, I learned that there were many like me, and I've got to know quite a few of you through several social media channels. Thank you so much for coming along on my creative journey - I hope you will stick around to see what's coming up next!
