Willie Pickens (born April 18, 1931, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA – December 13, 2017, New York City, New York, USA) was an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and educator. Among the artists he played with include: Eddie Harris, Sonny Stitt, Gene Ammons, Gerry Mulligan, Clark Terry, Art Farmer, Chet Baker, James Moody, and others. Willie Pickens (April 18, 1931 – December 13, 2017) was an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and educator. Pickens was born in Milwaukee on April 18, 1931. He studied piano formally from the age of 14. He attended Lincoln High School in Milwaukee with saxophonist Bunky Green. Pickens also studied at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Pickens joined the army in 1951.
