Edgar Holland Winter (born December 28, 1946) is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is known for being a t - keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist and percussionist - as well as a singer. His success peaked in the 1970s with his band, The Edgar Winter Group, and their popular songs "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride". Winter was born to John Winter II and Edwina Winter on December 28, 1946, in Beaumont, Texas.

Song by The Edgar Winter Group. from the album They Only Come Out at Night. Winter played many of the instruments on the track, including keyboards, saxophone and timbales. As the release's only instrumental cut, the song was not initially intended to be on the album, and was only included on a whim as a last-minute addition. It was originally released as the B-side to "Hangin' Around", but the two were soon reversed by the label when disc jockeys nationwide in the United States, as well as in Canada, were inundated with phone calls and realized this was the hit.

Album: They Only Come Out at Night (1973). Charted: 18 1. Get the Sheet Music License This Song. The 1931 film starring Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein monster is notably the most famous, then there was a sequel Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and the less thrilling Son of Frankenstein (1939) which also starred Karloff. He was a wrongly condemned doctor in Devil's Island (1939). Along with fellow actors Lon Chaney, Bela Lugosi and Vincent Price, Boris Karloff was an icon in early horror films. The 1931 film was quite different from the book, the 1994 film Mary Shelley's Frankenstein by Kenneth Branagh, starring Robert De Niro as the monster, was true to the book

Edgar Winter released his first album in 1970 entitled Entrance. He quickly followed up that album one year later with Edgar Winter’s White Trash in 1971. Edgar Winter released eight more albums throughout the 1970’s. Edgar Winter continued recording into the 1980’s, but only released two albums during his 1980’s period with Standing On A Rock in 1981 and Mission Earth in 1986. If we were going to choose the greatest guitar riffs in classic rock history, there are a few that come to mind rather quickly. Jimi Hendrix’s Foxy Lady, Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love, Deep Purple’s Smoke On The Water and of course hands down one of the greatest ever, Edgar Winter’s Frankenstein. However, Edgar Winter’s Frankenstein was so much more than a rock instrumental that contained a classic guitar riff.

One of the biggest instrumental hits of the early '70s, "Frankenstein" fused progressive rock & roll with what was to become heavy metal, with some wonderfully funky touches. The serious, bottom-heavy bass line (doubled on keyboard) is the basis for the song's main melody, which eventually gives way to a sterling horn break, which then retards into snaky wah-wah guitar solo, and a brief, but glorious drum section
