Witold Roman Lutosławski was a Polish composer and orchestral conductor. He was one of the major European composers of the 20th century, and one of the preeminent Polish musicians during his last three decades. He earned many international awards and prizes. His compositions include four symphonies, a Concerto for Orchestra, a string quartet, instrumental works, concertos, and orchestral song cycles. A performance of Karol Szymanowski 's Third Symphony deeply affected him. In 1925 he started violin lessons at the Warsaw Music School. In 1931 he enrolled at Warsaw University to study mathematics, and in 1932 he formally joined the composition classes at the Conservatory. His only composition teacher was Witold Maliszewski, a renowned Polish composer who had been a pupil of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

Krzysztof Eugeniusz Penderecki (Polish: ; born 23 November 1933) is a Polish composer and conductor. The Guardian has called him Poland's greatest living composer. Among his best known works are Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima, Symphony No. 3, his St. Luke Passion, Polish Requiem, Anaklasis and Utrenja

Witold Lutosławski is the greatest Polish composer of the second half of the 20th century, and one of the greatest music artists of the previous century. While in Riga, he meets Karol Szymanowski who, having heard Lutosławski play his Sonata, offers several compliments about the work of the debuting composer. He completes his piano studies at the Warsaw Conservatory, and accepts a proposal to work on the music for three short films: Gore, Fire! and Uwaga, Beware! by Eugeniusz Czekalski, and Zwarcie, Short circuit by Stefan and Franciszka Themerson. He also composes the Songs of the Underground Struggle. Together with Andrzej Panufnik he forms a piano duo performing in Warsaw's cafés. The pianists transcribe works by many composers, mainly classical and Romantic, for two pianos.

A performance of Karol Szymanowski's Third Symphony deeply affected him. Title of Document: POLISH VIOLIN MUSIC IN THE 20TH AND 21st CENTURY Światosław Ludwik Kuźnik, Doctor of Musical Arts, 2015. Directed By: Associate Professor, Dr. James Stern, School of Music, String Division. The purpose of this dissertation is to promote Polish violin music written in the 20th and 21st Century. Among composers who wrote educational music were Grażyna Bacewicz, Witold Lutosławski, and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. This approach makes the works more easily understood by young performers and, at the same time, broadens their understanding of Polish culture and prepares them for the challenges of contemporary music. Wojciech Kilar Krzysztof Penderecki Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki Witold L. Szymanowski, Panufnik (mainly for his early output), Lutoslawski, and Gorecki. I loathe Penderecki's music. One of the most overrated composers of the late 20th Century IMHO. Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.
