Hard Core is the debut studio album by American rapper Lil' Kim. It was released on November 12, 1996, by Undeas Recordings, Big Beat Records, and Atlantic Records. After achieving a success with the hip hop group Junior . and their album Conspiracy (1995), Kim began working on her solo album with The Notorious . serving as the executive producer (besides this, he performed on four songs).

This 26-year-old British singer-producer broke through in 2013 with a pair of EPs that were so sleepy and diaphanous they seemed like apparitions. That was part of the appeal for many fans, but her debut LP is far more substantial. Twigs’ deconstructed shards of . grime and garage land heavier, while elegiac vocals soften the songs without blunting their edge. Kicks and Numbers play intricately sculpted details against trunk-thumping beats – and the friction makes sense for these songs about sexuality and separation
