About Dumpy's Rusty Nuts. Dumpy (b. Graham Dunnell, July 1949, London, England) had been playing with various bands since the mid-60s. His first big break came in 1977 with new wave outfit the Rivvets. Four years later he returned to his love of blues and formed Dumpy’s Rusty Nuts. Together they recorded the ‘Biker Anthem’ and ‘Just For Kicks’, before encountering trouble with BBC Radio 1 who objected to the band’s name - for a while ‘nuts’ became ‘bolts’. Dumpy, a natural entertainer, followed the rock traditions started by Jackie Lynton and interspersed the music with jokes, which helped to gain them a cult following in the pubs and clubs. It was Dumpy’s connections with Hawkwind that kept him in the public eye, with 1987’s Get Out On The Road becoming his most successful release, largely owing to guest appearances by Davey, Thompson and Dave Brock from Hawkwind.
