Complete your Augustus Pablo And Friends collection. referencing The Red Sea, LP, Comp, AQSLP001. the quality (at least of my copy) was very poor. ongoing noises on side A. also not happy how the sound was restored/treated in re-mastering & transferring process from vinyl. the differences from track to track are quite big. not a great listening experience. This one begins benignly enough with Pablo flexing over some old Aggrovator rhythms. One wonders if a lot of these tracks aren't actually outtakes from another session. The wondering ends, however, about halfway through the session. From that point on, Pablo's in fine form, flexing, pushing and, most importantly, thinking out loud. Pablo had an improviser's mind as keen as any jazz soloist's. He demands your attention and engagement. It's still a one way street, more akin to a sermon than a debate.

Oli XL. 'Stress Junkie'. Augustus Pablo met Hugh Mundell through fellow singer Earl 16, who was trying to help him navigate the treacherous waters of the Jamaican music industry. Mundell was essentially another middle class kid who had gravitated to Rastafari, and he’d been trying to break into the music scene by hanging around Kingston recording studios such as Joe Gibbs’. The song and album hold ample evidence that Augustus Pablo continually upheld his principles, maintaining a unique and unhurried approach to music production right to the very end.
