Red Hot Chili Peppers' signature sound has generated long-standing radio staples during their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame career. The familiar Flea bass sound, Anthony Kiedis' rhythmic patter and Chad Smith's funky drumming have generated a unique feel that has served the band well, but with The Getaway, it appears as though the Chili Peppers are showing they have some new tricks up their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sleeves. In fact, the album as a whole feels as if it were meant to be played during the evening hours, with the opening trio of tracks - "The Getaway," "Dark Necessities" and "We Turn Red" feeling as though they could float on the evening air as you head out for fun, while "Encore" "The Hunter" and "Dreams of the Samurai" feel like. the late night cool down.
The Getaway marks the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 11th LP and first since 2011’s I’m With You. Danger Mouse produced the record, with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich on mixing duties. Album art and a complete track list are below. Anthony Kiedis spoke with Rolling Stone in October, prior to the Chili Peppers’ annual Silverlake Benefit show, and detailed the band’s creative progress. The torture about doing this is that we’ve been writing new music for the last year, and we’ve written some songs that I feel are as good as any songs we’ve ever written, Kiedis said.

Album · 2016 · 13 Songs. For a big-ticket band, the Chili Peppers remain appealingly stripped-down, mixing their lean, punky approach with disco ( Go Robot ), golden-age hip-hop ( The Getaway ), psychedelia ( This Ticonderoga, Detroit ) and slow-burning funk (the Elton John-featuring Sick Love )
The Red Hot Chili Peppers' 11th studio album, 2016's The Getaway, is a sophisticated work of dark-hued maturity that finds the long-running California outfit expanding their sound into nuanced, '70s-style orchestral soul and funky psychedelia. The album follows the equally adventurous I'm with You (2011) and once again showcases guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who replaced John Frusciante in 2009. This makes The Getaway the first album the Red Hot Chili Peppers have recorded without longtime collaborator Rick Rubin, who has helmed each of the band's albums since 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik. While the choice helps differentiate The Getaway on a spiritual level, sonically it feels as if the band and Klinghoffer have finally gelled as a complete creative unit. Maybe that's due to having I'm with You under their belt, or perhaps it's due to Kiedis having purportedly gone through a painful break-up.
Until now, Red Hot Chili Peppers always commissioned artwork for its album covers, most recently with Damien Hirst’s design for I’m With You. For The Getaway, the band chose an existing image. Somehow, Kiedis came across it. Innocence meets graffiti and grime in the portrait, which Peterson spent 100 hours painting and features the likeness of 8-year-old Chloé, the ballerina daughter of a mutual friend in Houston
