Despite some intersections of interest, neither meshes with the other, although they try hard - basically, it's a difference in philosophy; Perkins says and plays as little as he needs to in putting over his songs, like the rockabilly equivalent of Count Basie at the piano, and the NRBQ stretches out, overly complicating and embellishing most of what they touch here. The results aren't horrendous, and some critics liked what they heard, but this record wasn't what Perkins' fans, country or rock, were paying to hear him do, and amounts to a curious digression from his real.
