Not since Carpenter’s organ-heavy score for 1981’s Halloween II has he come off this menacing. This is angry music, no doubt informed by the rage on both sides of this dueling narrative.
The year is 1963, the night: Halloween. Police are called to 43 Lampkin Ln. only to discover that 15 year old Judith Myers has been stabbed to death, by her 6 year-old brother, Michael. After being institutionalized for 15 years, Myers breaks out on the night before Halloween. No one knows, nor wants to find out, what will happen on October 31st 1978 besides Myers' psychiatrist, Dr. Loomis. He knows Michael is coming back to Haddonfield, but by the time the town realizes it, it'll be too late for many people.
Carpenter's original work on Halloween remains one of the most acclaimed horror soundtracks of all time. It helped establish him as one of synth music's forefathers, helping shape the world of music in his later scores for Escape From New York,Halloween III, They Live and much more. One need to look no further than current television shows and movies like Stranger Things and It Follows to hear Carpenter's influence, and of course the music of Nine Inch Nails. Speaking of soundtracks, Nine Inch Nails have remained very present these past couple of months
Veteran horror director Carpenter has denied being ‘very cold’ towards Rob Zombie over his Halloween, claiming instead that he was ‘incredibly supportive’.
