Live at Pompeii is a live album and film by David Gilmour, the former guitarist of Pink Floyd. It was recorded at the Amphitheatre of Pompeii and was the first public performance at the venue since AD 79. It documents his 2015-16 world tour to promote his album, Rattle That Lock (2015).
45 years after Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour filmed ‘Live At Pompeii’ in the legendary Roman Amphitheatre there, he returned for two spectacular shows in July 2016, part of the year-long tour in support of his N. album ‘Rattle That Lock’. The performances were the first-ever rock concerts for an audience in the stone Roman amphitheatre, and, for two nights only, the 2,600-strong crowd stood exactly where gladiators would have fought in the first century AD.

David Gilmour hints at a new solo LP in a promo trailer for his upcoming CD/DVD and theatrical film, Live at Pompeii. It’s a good news/bad news scenario for fans: The Pink Floyd guitarist already has leftover material from his last solo LP, 2015’s Rattle That Lock, that could spark his next studio project, but he’s uncomfortable heading off and doing another tour without having any new music. There are several songs that are close to being complete, which didn’t make it onto this album, he says in the clip. I can’t see myself doing another tour with making another album first, and.
David Gilmour's two concerts assembled for Live at Pompeii mark the first time that the amphitheater has hosted a rock gig since Pink Floyd played there in 1971. They didn't play for an audience, however, they were filmed for Adrian Maben's documentary Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. This double-disc set is the movie's soundtrack
The concert performance film, David Gilmour Live at Pompeii, was shot in 4k by director Gavin Elder and includes highlights from both shows. The concert is a spectacular audio-visual experience, featuring the famous huge circular cyclorama screen as well as lasers, pyrotechnics and stellar performances from an all-star band.
