Only for completionists (0%). Jon Anderson is easily my favourite recording artist of all time, with or without Yes. Brilliant vocals, masterful songwriting and fantastic live presence contribute massively to this. This DVD, however, really does not show what Jon can pull of in a live setting.
Recorded at the studios of XM satellite radio on April 1, 2004, Tour of the Universe is Jon Anderson's first solo home video. Characteristic of his work, it is visually lush. This isn't just Anderson, sitting in front of a small audience in a radio studio with his guitar, keyboards, and harp.

The "Tour of the Universe" DVD is so many wonderful things, it's hard to describe. First, it's basically a new Jon Anderson solo album, as most of the songs are new releases. And many are quite good, with the magical celestial vibe we know and love from Jon. As for the mandatory Yessongs, some are given refreshing new arrangements. Second, it's a magical visual journey. Jon posted an advertisement on his web site look for computer animators, and he found some great ones. Many of the songs have their own visual accompaniment.
Jon Anderson is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable voices in progressive rock as the lead vocalist and creative force behind Yes. Anderson was the author and a major creative influence behind the ground-breaking album 'Fragile' as well as the series of epic, complex pieces such as Awaken, Gates of Delirium and especially Close to the Edge which were central to the band's success. The resulting live DVD 'Tour of The Universe' was released that year. In 2007 Anderson contributed vocals to an album 'Culture of Ascent' by American progressive rock group Glass Hammer; and appeared as part of a vocal ensemble on the track Repentance from the Dream Theater album 'Systematic Chaos'. In 2007 Anderson toured both the USA and England with The Paul Green School of Rock Music.
Animation is the third solo album by Jon Anderson, a founder-member and former lead singer of Yes. It was released in 1982. As with the previous album Song of Seven, several well-known musicians were involved in Animation, including Simon Phillips, David Sancious, Jack Bruce and Morris Pert.
Jon Anderson's first solo album since 2011 will feature former Yes bandmates Steve Howe, Alan White and the late Chris Squire. Titled 1,000 Hands, the album is due on March 31. "I've spent long periods of time making some records, but I’ve never taken a journey quite like this one," Anderson said in a news release. That's where the title 1,000 Hands comes from, all of the brilliant musicians who played a part in making the record," Anderson said. Yes split with Anderson in 2004; his only solo album since then has been Survival and Other Stories, released seven years later. More recently, he co-founded an offshoot band called Yes Featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman.

Anderson eventually left Yes in 1979 and released his solo album Song Of Seven the following year. He also collaborated with other progressive bands like Iron Butterfly and King Crimson, toured with the New Life Band and in 1981 achieved further success working with Vangelis on the album The Friends Of Mr Cairo, including two hit singles I'll Find My Way Home and State Of Independence, also covered by Donna Summer.
