Alexander was born in 1851. He is the son of George Phemister and Margery Grant. 21 November 1851: Baptism: Parish of Newcastle, county of Northumberland.

In the last decade of his life, Duke Ellington wrote three Sacred Concerts: 1965 - A Concert of Sacred Music. 1968 - Second Sacred Concert. 1973 - Third Sacred Concert. Ellington called these concerts "the most important thing I have ever done". He said many times that he was not trying to compose a "Mass" (liturgy). The critic Gary Giddins has characterized these concerts as Ellington bringing the Cotton Club revue to the church.

William Byrd (1540 or late 1539 –1623) was one of the most celebrated English composers in the Renaissance. He lived until well into the seventeenth century without writing music in the new Baroque fashion, but his superbly constructed keyboard works marked the beginning of the Baroque organ and harpsichord style. Domenico Scarlatti : Sacred Vocal Music : Stabat Mater. Missa breve 'La Stella ' Te Deum Magnificat. Bach - Suites for Violoncello da spalla solo.

Sacred Concert Band Music (182). Soaring Above the Clouds: Album for the Young CD Concert Band CD. 10311952. The beauty and austerity of this sacred choral work is captured beautifully for band by the arranger.

Bibliography, Concertos (Piano), Instrumental music. Created April 1, 2008.
