In their combination of effusiveness and serenity, the Eight Poems of Li-Po loom as attractive objects rife with brilliant detail, concise and accomplished, and admirable rather than moving. As the great English musicologist Deryck Cooke noted, "The subtle simplicity and exquisite fragility .. are beautifully reflected in Lambert's cool, fragrant, allusive settings. Nocturne. Allowing for the occasional dalliance with baritone and soprano registers the tenor voice has most often moved me. Philip Langridge was one of its finest British exponents

Leonard Constant Lambert (23 August 1905 – 21 August 1951) was a British composer, conductor, and author. The son of Australian painter George Lambert and younger brother of Maurice Lambert, Constant Lambert was educated at Christ's Hospital and the Royal College of Music. His teachers at the latter institution were Ralph Vaughan Williams, R. O. Morris and Sir George Dyson (composition), Malcolm Sargent (conducting) and Herbert Fryer (piano).

The Piano Concerto No. 1 in B♭ minor, Op. 23, was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky between November 1874 and February 1875. It was revised in the summer of 1879 and again in December 1888. The first version received heavy criticism from Nikolai Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky's desired pianist. Rubinstein later repudiated his previous accusations and became a fervent champion of the work. It is one of the most popular of Tchaikovsky's compositions and among the best known of all piano concertos. Piano Concerto No. 1 Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto.

Beethoven Piano Concerto No. The first version of this concerto dates from 1795, but it is finalized three years later. The concert was first performed by Beethoven in the Burgtheater, Vienna on March 25, 1795 and was dedicated to Carl Nicklas Edler von Nickelsberg. It was published in 1801, by which time he had also published the Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, although it had been composed after the B-flat concerto. Part I – Allegro con brio – is constructed like a sonata and the themes are first presented by the orchestra. The composition reflects the influence of both Haydn and Mozart. Both the first and second piano concerti bear Mozart’s influence and are considered to be some of Beethoven's more classical compositions. The influences will fade away gradually as Beethoven composes his latter piano concertos.

Sergei Rachmaninoff wrote his Piano Concerto no. 3 in D minor, Op. 30 in 1909. It is considered a very demanding piece, which inspires respect between piano virtuosos (the dedicatee, Josef Hofmann, never played it, and pianist Gary Graffman was quoted saying that he should have learned it while he was young and didn't know what fear was). It was premiered in 1909 by Rachmaninoff himself as the soloist with the New York Symphony Society conducted by Walter Damrosch. It was later performed with Mahler as a conductor, a experience that.
