Duke Ellington - Charpoy Charpoy Duke Ellington. West Indian Pancake (4:45). Overview (current section). Absolut Duke Ellington. Also featured on. +17 other releases.

When Duke Ellington took his orchestra to the Newport Jazz Festival in 1956, the band was in need of an uplift, some humongous event that would revitalize its image in the wake of bebop, hard bop, and so many more jazz currents. I would highly recommend this album for any Duke Ellington fans because it has the famous Diminuendo & Crescendo in Blue single where there was a 27 encore 'finish' that ascended the music to a dizzying heights that has not been rivaled since. It is the main reason why I bought this album in the first place, since I have heard it before, and I wish to hear it again.
