Mirror Man is the fifth studio album by American rock band Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, released in April 1971 by Buddah Records. It contains material that was recorded for the label in 1967 and originally intended for release as part of an abandoned project entitled It Comes to You in a Plain Brown Wrapper. Much of the material from this project was subsequently re-recorded and released through a different label as Strictly Personal (1968).

Album overview by Steve Froy: From the people that brought you the Magnetic Hands album here is a similar collection of stunning live performances. This time they are culled from rare recordings of American shows made betwwen 1966 and 1981. They have also managed to include a very rare item, something that amounts to a new Beefheart song many people will not have heard before - 'Railroadism' is a close cousin to the legendary unreleased 'Hoboism'. It emerges from a brilliant performance of 'China Pig' which Denny Walley always played so well - his solo guitar driving Don along on what may have been an improvised piece.

Combining elements of free jazz, blues and rock, Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band produced what is commonly regarded by critics and fans as one of rock’s few truly original bodies of work. Don Van Vliet (aka Captain Beefheart) retired from the music industry after 1982’s Ice Cream For Crow album to concentrate on his primary love – paint.
