1984 (For the Love of Big Brother) is a soundtrack album by British musical duo Eurythmics. It was released on 12 November 1984 by Virgin Records and contains music recorded by the duo for the 1984 film Nineteen Eighty-Four, based on George Orwell's dystopian novel of the same name. Virgin Films produced the film for release in its namesake year, and commissioned Eurythmics to write a soundtrack.

The original score of the motion picture 1984, it was treated as a side project for marketing purposes, not as Eurythmics' full-fledged fourth new studio album. Much of the album is instrumental, and the closest thing to a pop song, "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)" (which was a Top Ten hit in the . like the other vocal numbers, relates to the movie's future fiction theme. As such, the album is substandard if judged as an independent Eurythmics album, adequate if judged as a soundtrack

The album reached number 23 on the UK Album Chart, and was later certified Gold by the BPI for sales in excess of 100,000 copies. A song from the album, "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)", was released as a single just prior to the album and became one of Eurythmics' biggest hits, peaking at number 4 and was awarded. The CD booklet featured previously unseen production photographs and artwork as well as liner notes by Radford.

For a limited time only. Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart were commissioned to score the 1984 film adaptation of George Orwell's classic masterpiece. Most tracks are instrumentals, but this soundtrack yielded two UK singles for the duo: "Sexcrime (1984)" was quite popular on mid-80s dance floors and the ballad "Julia" is named for protagonist Winston's lover and the heroine of the story. 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother). Released November 12, 1984. 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother) Tracklist. 1. I Did It Just The Same Lyrics. Originally, Michael Radford, the director of the film, wanted Dominic Mulvaney to score the film, but Virgin Records, which funded the film, decided to bank on the talent of the times, namely Eurythmics. Virgin then, controversially, exercised right of final cut, and put most of the Eurythmics' cues in place of the Mulvaney cues (though some of Mulvaney’s music remains, namely 3 songs, including the music Oceania Tis For Thee )

This album was pulled from the shelves early due to legal disputes going on with the Movie Studio and Record Label. For the Love of Big Brother" was the Eurythmics sound track attempt for the film "1984" starring John Hurt and Richard Burton. It had the UK hit "Sexcrime: 1984" which never made it mainstream in the states. I believe because MTV wouldn't give the video much air time due to the word "Sex" in the title! Silly, but it was the 80's after all. I personally LOVE "every" song on the album and find it to be extremely original.

1 Isolated Score

There are actually three variations of the Nineteen Eighty Four film, one which uses Eurythmics’ score, one which uses an orchestral score (Radford’s preferred version) and one that mixes the two. On this edition of the Blu Ray a ‘bonus feature’ has an option to watch the movie with an ‘isolated score’.
