Lyrics for The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles, and Fripp. Note: These lyrics were obtained from repeated listenings to the album. They are in no way connected with the actual lyrics, which may bear a very striking resemblance to the ones in this file. Anything which I consider questionable is marked with a (?). Thanks to Paul Merrit for some corrections. Michael R Giles: drums, vocals. Robert Fripp: guitar. Wayne Bickerton: producer.

Giles, Giles and Fripp were an English rock group, formed in Bournemouth, Dorset in August 1967. It featured brothers Michael Giles on drums and vocals, Peter Giles on bass guitar and vocals, and Robert Fripp on guitar. The band's music showed an eclectic mix of pop, psychedelic rock, folk, jazz, and classical influences. The group eventually evolved into pioneering progressive rock band King Crimson. Robert Fripp discography.

According to Robert Fripp the album sold only 500 copies. This information came from his royalty statement, but it is very unlikely that this was the total number of original copies sold. Also during 1968 the group recorded what would become The Brondesbury Tapes at their home demo studio, which would not be released until 2001.

there was Giles Giles and Fripp (GGF). This is in no sense a King Crimson album, consisting as it (mostly) does of lighthearted, short pop tracks influenced by the Beatles and, to a lesser extent, the psychedelic zeitgeist rock of 1968-ish. Strange Fripp album but fun anyway. I liked how much of a departure it is from Fripp's later work with King Crimson. Also during 1968 the group recorded a series of demos at their home demo studio, which would be released as The Brondesbury Tapes in 2001. Peter Giles was replaced on bass by Greg Lake soon after and the band renamed themselves King Crimson.

Notes

"Giles, Giles and Fripp stand poised to grasp the pinnacle of success—yea, the acme of achievement—to bask in the sunshine of mass-adulation and thrill to ecstasy of millions. Or else to plummet into unplumbed depths of ignominy, unlovéd, unheeded and poor. Giles, Giles and Fripp stand poised."

Limited edition reissue on black vinyl of 500 copies.
