Quicksilver is the sixth album by American psychedelic rock band Quicksilver Messenger Service. Released in November 1971, it was the first album without original members John Cipollina and David Freiberg. Nicky Hopkins had also left at this point to continue his successful journeyman career. Only Gary Duncan and Greg Elmore remained from the original quartet.

Quicksilver Messenger Service : Quicksilver,альбом, рецезия, трек-лист, mp3, тексты песен. 8. Don't Cry My Lady Love. Quicksilver Messenger Service. Other productions from Quicksilver Messenger Service. Live at the Avalon Ballroom, San Francisco, 9th September 1966. Live at the Filmore Auditorium, 4th February 1967.

This was Quicksilver Messenger Service's first album, although they had already produced two songs for the soundtrack of the 1968 movie Revolution. The album displays the group's jam sound amidst lighter pop-oriented songs. Unlike contemporaries such as the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver's jams were highly planned as can be heard by comparing the studio versions of songs with those from bootleg live performances. Dino's Song" was written by Dino Valenti who was at that time in prison due to marijuana-related offenses.

Quicksilver’s initial and long-awaited excursion into the primordial clear light of San Francisco isn’t quite what was expected, due to the production staff headed by the Electric Flag’s Nick Gravenites and Harvey Brooks. The Quicksilver Messenger Service don’t sound quite the same since they’ve heard the Flag and Mike Bloomfield, late arrivals on the San Francisco scene. As a result, most of the album cuts (only six altogether) come across sounding like the Electric Flag, minus their blues-loyal predication and Buddy Miles, doing straight rock. An exception to the general tone of the album is Quicksilver’s interpretation of folk-rock (remember?) singer Hamilton (Bob) Camp’s Pride of Man. This is an unusual number for them to have done, but it’s really a better version than Camp’s original.

Quicksilver Messenger Service has never gotten the full credibility they deserve. A lot like what Thin Lizzy did for Hard Rock, Quicksilver Messenger Service is one of those bands who works wonders for Psychedelia, but never got famous enough to be noticed for how good they really were. Blending instrumental virtuosity with soaring melody, and marrying country rock to jazz, psychedelic rock has never sounded more awesome. Quicksilver Messenger Service provided ground shaking original material for their debut, but what really makes the album interesting and, in my opinion, worthwhile, is their covers. They put their own spin on some blues classics, and turned them into psychedelic nirvana. Evidence of this is their rendition of folk artist Hamilton Camp’s Pride of Man, which marries a spicy mariachi groove to an acid rock guitar melody, and a very strong vocal performance.
