On this album, for some unknown (and unnecessary) reason, the sonata is performed in an orchestrated version. The three movements of the piece are not separated onto their own tracks, which can be a little annoying. Performed by violinist Sergei Krylov, the playing here is the exact opposite of Nikolitch. Rather than being a little dull, Krylov's is excessively aggressive and vertical. Although he has a thorough command of technique and easily delivers on the demands of the "Devil's Trill" third movement, a little less overt showiness would have been welcomed.
