Approaching 25 years of existence and having grown to become one of extreme music’s premier live outfits, while releasing albums that would domin. ate year-end lists and even bagging a Norwegian Spellemann Grammy award for their ‘Profan’ album, Kampfar looked ready to go and dominate for years to come. With the albums ‘Djevelmakt’ and ‘Profan’ Kampfar established a new era for Norwegian Black Metal, proving that while some may have lost their passion for the fiercest musical exploits, these men had a hunger that was as ravenous as ever. Except that life has a knack for surprise.

Album (Studio full-length). Geir Torgersen : Didgeridoo, Throat Singing. 1). Megametal (70/100). pár výraznejších momentov dopĺňa kopec priemerných nápadov. Pre mňa málo zaujímavé a ničím výnimočné ďalšie blackové album.
Opener Gloria Ablaze and closer Tornekratt are not only the best tracks on the album, but proof of the aforementioned honing. Kicking off with powerful, blackened riffs and a holistic sense of emotion and atmosphere, they build to deep-breathing, orgasmic relief when their respective choruses finally arrive.
Profan is the newest album from heavyweights KAMPFAR, who prove with this latest release that there is still a lot of life in the Norse Black Metal, with a new video and some incredible tracks. Kicking off with Gloria Ablaze, this is very much a road down into the depths of disjointed, warped tones. The vocals are grimy and gritty, angry and vexed. The music itself if classically KAMPFAR-melodic, and gradually growing in intensity. It’s a wonderful opening track, drawing on your dread and dragging out a strange pleasure from the doom and melody. Profanum is deeply effecting.
It’s quite hard to comprehend that Norwegian black metal quartet, Kampfar are now 20 years into their career as they’ve generally been overshadowed by their neighboured peers. Since 2011’s riveting unleashing of Mare they have undergone slight changes to their blackened soundscapes that consequently have led to a steady expansion of binding emotion within their music. The -metal tag with trademark sonic assaults of pummelling percussion and raucous riffing as still present however the more harmonious side of Kampfar was showcased during 2014’s Djevelmakt.
